Gore Hill firefighters are trained and equipped to enter cold or icy water to rescue immersed victims. Special dry suits keep the firefighters protected from the dangerous conditions cold water poses. This allows firefighters to complete their assignment in the safest manner possible.

Firefighters check each other over before entering the water, making sure the firefighter is properly wearing the dry suit, which will protect the firefighter from the low temperatures of cold or icy water.

A firefighter crawls out to a victim. Crawling allows the firefighter to distribute his body weight over as much of the surface of the ice as allowed, thereby reducing their chances of falling through the ice.

The firefighter works to a position behind the victim. This puts the firefighter in the safest position to secure the victim with a rope. The shore crew will then pull in both the victim and the rescuer.
