Gore Hill firefighters are trained to respond to structure fires. Once on scene, they are trained to suppress the fire using external methods, and if need be, to enter the structure and put out the fire. Gore Hill firefighters are also trained and equipped to search the building for injured persons, and remove them from the hazardous situation quickly and effectivly.

The initial entry crew makes ready to enter a structure. The first crew gets the task of finding the seat of the fire and blackening out the fire. Structural Fire crews consist of three people, Tools, Nozzle, and Crew Leader, and work in close proximity to one another.

Firefighters dawn Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) in preparation for entering a building with low air quality. The SCBA allows firefighters to breathe clean bottled air when working in hazardous locations, and are the highest level of respiratory protection available. Typical working times while using an SCBA depend on a firefighter's fitness level, tank size, air pressure, and the rate at which physical activity is being performed.

A Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) stands by while another crew is working inside the hazardous zone. The RIT crew would be able to provide immediate intervention if the working crew experiences trouble or gets trapped inside the hazard zone.
