Gore Hill Department members are trained to extricate people who are trapped in a motor vehicle following a significant collision event. Extrication can be as simple as removing a window to unlock a car door to access a unconcious patient, to as complex as removal of the top, doors, and performing a dash roll to access the patient. Gore Hill firefighters utilize the "Jaws of Life" and other tools to remove pieces of the car. This allows paramedics and firefighters the ability to safely remove someone injured in a automobile accident.

Gore Hill Firefighters use a donated car to learn, practice, and hone their extrication skills. Fire fighters are making the car fire safe and performing patient access and vehicle stabilization.

Hydraulic spreaders are used to pop open the doors of  vehicles that are unable to be opened due to the damage of the collision.

A sawzall is used to cut through the windshield of the car, and to cut the posts that support the roof of the car.

The "B" post is cut from the car to remove the rear passenger compartment doors, and to allow more room to access and remove the patient from the car.
